Mental Health First Aid Courses
Standard Mental Health First Aid
Adults who complete this 12-hour course become Mental Health First Aiders, equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most. You will learn how to apply mental health first aid to adults across a range of common mental health problems, including crisis situations. Accreditation is valid for 3 years.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Adults who complete this 14-hour course are those working or living with young people. They become Mental Health First Aiders who learn how to apply mental health first aid to young people across a range of common mental health problems experienced by young people including crisis situations. Accreditation is valid for 3 years.
Teen Mental Health First Aid
Teen Mental Health First Aid teaches students in years 7 to 12 how to provide peer-to-peer support to a friend or classmate who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. It’s delivered in 3 sessions to a cohort of students in school or club. Students will receive participation certificates and workbooks.
Standard Refresher Course
The Standard Mental Health First Aid Refresher is a 5-hour course for anyone who has completed the 12-hour Standard MHFA course and wants to maintain their accreditation before the 3-year expiry. Participants in this training can refresh their MHFA skills online to gain another three years’ accreditation.
Youth Refresher Course
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Refresher is a 5-hour course for anyone who has completed the 14-hour Youth MHFA course and wants to maintain their accreditation before the 3-year expiry. Participants in this training can refresh their MHFA skills online to gain another three years’ accreditation.
Blended Youth Course
The Blended Youth Mental Health First Aid course is offered in a blended format that consists of an eLearning component and an instructor-led component delivered in person over one 8-hour day or 2 half-day workshops. The course teaches participants how to recognise the signs of a mental health problem in a young person and to have a conversation about it.
Standard Community Course
This is a Standard Mental Health First Aid course tailored to the community setting. Participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in a friend, family member or another adult. There is a self-paced eLearning component (5-7 hours), followed by a 4-hour face-to-face session which can also be delivered online.
Standard Workplace Course
This is a Standard Mental Health First Aid course tailored to the workplace setting. Participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in a co-worker or another adult. There is a self-paced eLearning component (5-7 hours), followed by a 4-hour face-to-face session which can also be delivered online.
Standard Legal Course
This is a Standard Mental Health First Aid course for legal professionals. The course includes content, crisis situations, case studies and videos tailored to the needs of those working in the legal sector. There is a self-paced eLearning component (5-7 hours), followed by a 4-hour face-to-face session or 2 x 2.5-hour video conferencing sessions.
Engaging Senior Leaders Course
The Engaging Leaders Course is offered as a 90-minute workshop. This course is designed for leaders, decision-makers and influencers to learn how to support their employees who may be experiencing a mental health problem. It will help leaders to understand the benefits that mental health first aid can offer in helping to create mentally healthy workplaces.
Conversations about Gambling
Conversations about Gambling course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing gambling harm or gambling-related mental health crisis until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. It is delivered in person over 4 hours.
Conversations about Non-suicidal Self-Injury
The conversations about non-suicidal self-injury MHFA course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be engaging in non-suicidal self-injury, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves. It is delivered in person over 4 hours.

Teen MHFA Course
Formats
This program consists of 3 face-to-face classroom sessions. Students are taught how to recognise when a friend may be developing a mental health problem.
Pricing
- $1000 per classroom of approx. 28 students for all 3 sessions
Note
- Junior teens (Years 7–9): 3 x 60 min sessions
- Senior teens (Years 10–12): 3 x 75 min sessions
- Delivered to whole year-level cohorts, with a teacher present
- Schools/clubs must have at least 10% of staff trained in Youth MHFA
- Prices are subject to change without notice

Cancellation Policy
- Mind Health First cancels or alters courses when participant numbers are low. In this case, the next training date will be offered.
- Participants can change their training date only once.
- ‘Open’ tickets are redeemable for up to one year after purchase.
- The E-Learning voucher ($120) can't be refunded once purchased, including the $20 sign-up fee ($140 non-refundable).
- If cancelled 30+ days before the course, a refund will be issued.
- 15–30 days before the course – eligible for a 50% refund.
- 0–14 days before the course – no refund applies.
